These feet are made for walking

In the 20 some years I have had JRA I never really thought that my feet would be affected. Not sure why I thought that feet were untouchable by arthritis, maybe it's because I was really enjoying the fact that it had gone everywhere but to the bottom of my body. We'll my reality was crushed when I went to the podiatrist the other day because I was experiencing pain with walking. It is crazy how much the whole body can be affected when the feet are messed up. There is nothing better than taking a morning away from work to spend at the clinic for a couple of hours, what tops it off is the 15 minutes you actually spend with the doctor. So after having a lovely student doing my photo shoot of my painful feet I was told that arthritis is the cause of my foot pain and the only thing you can do is treat the arthritis and get soft molded inserts for your feet. I truthfully was hoping that she would say "oh we can fix that with a simple surgery." I'm not a big one for going under the knife but this sounded like the greatest option. This amazing podiatrist who I wish was my doctor for all of my practitioners showed me how well I did with my shoot. "see these are where your joints are supposed to be, you have one little joint left between the 4th and 5th metatarsall." Wow, that is freakin fabulous! So that translates to "good luck, your screwed at the age of 28 with no joint tissue in your left foot." Thanks! I'll call you when I'm ready to spend a large amount of money on inserts that will fit into one pair of shoes that I own. XOXO. Another reason to be motivated to change my lifestyle before the rest of my joint tissue disappears.

  1. Hi. Just removed a sugar-free home style banana bread from the oven which is delicious. So it can be done. Note that coconut palm sugar and xylitol get a lot of press as alternative natural sweeteners. Of course It isn't necessary to remove all sugar from your diet just cut back from the massive amounts that Americans irresponsibly consume daily. Also, decreasing your sugar intake doesn't have to be over night, although a timeline isn't an awful idea. 10-12 teaspoons per day or no more than 40 grams is reasonable. It is amazing how often sugar is on the ingredient list of unsuspecting foods. There is also a new store called Indigo Organic on Madison Ave that you might find interesting to visit. The extra effort and research is worth the end results of a healthy lifestyle - in my opinion.

  2. Thanks for the comment. Im very interested in learning about any of the sugar substitutes out there that are natural. I have been using some honey otherwise stevia fiber powder. I want to do more research on honey and see if that is a good choice with a yeast overgrowth problem. I have noticed that new store and was curious to what they all have. I will have to check it out along with two you mentioned. It seems like coconut is getting a lot of attention lately. It really is disgusting to think about the sugar intake of most americans in one day! I can't wait to make my child a healthier person from this change, now if my husband would just cut back on his I take:)
